FAMIGLIE ROM A MIRAFIORI SUD

Nel 2001 la nonna di una decina di bambini Rom che quest'anno hanno iniziato a frequentare per la prima volta la scuola elementare, ha trascorso, gravemente malata, gli ultimi due mesi della sua vita ospite di un ortolano del quartiere, nella baracca di un orto abusivo sulle sponde del Sangone.

Dieci anni dopo i suoi figli vivono in una condizione non dissimile alla sua, anche se, grazie ad un progetto avviato nell'estate del 2011 che coinvolge cinque famiglie Rom, i suoi nipotini frequentano le scuole del quartiere, con una frequenza superiore alla media cittadina.

Eppure, ancora oggi, queste famiglie vivono per strada, con tutti i disagi che ne conseguono sia per loro che per il territorio.

In questi mesi, oltre l'accoglienza dei bambini da parte delle scuole, alcune realtà e volontari hanno stretto un fragile cordone di solidarietà a sostegno di questa esperienza. Alcuni hanno messo a disposizione un posto nel cortile, altri un bagno, altri ancora il latte per la colazione o un po' di semplice vicinanza umana.

Questo sforzo, che sta già dando frutti miracolosi, anche grazie a qualche sostegno da parte delle istituzioni, ha bisogno dell'intervento di chi, a livelli più alti, può consentire il pieno successo di questa piccola esperienza di tolleranza e convivenza a Torino.

Come operatori e come abitanti ci rivolgiamo quindi alle autorità cittadine per tre questioni su cui i nostri sforzi sono stati finora vani:

1. identificare e autorizzare una collocazione provvisoria delle famiglie, distribuita in postazioni singole, perché non siano oggetto di continui sgomberi;

2. sostenere le procedure necessarie all'ottenimento dei documenti per chi sia nella condizione di apolidia, consentendo così l'avvio di regolari percorsi lavorativi;

3. concedere spazi o locali per l'accoglienza abitativa delle famiglie, nella prospettiva di consentire la maturazione dei requisiti per il successivo ingresso in casa.

Non crediamo che la realizzazione di un nuovo campo nomadi possa sostenere efficacemente l'inserimento e l'integrazione di queste famiglie.
Ci auguriamo che sia possibile intraprendere un percorso che dia a queste famiglie un futuro di emancipazione dalla povertà e dall'esclusione sociale.

ROMA FAMILIES IN SOUTH-MIRAFIORI

In 2001, the grandmother of ten Roma children who started attending the primary school for the first time in the year 2011-2012, has passed, seriously ill, the last two months of her life hosted by a gardener of South-Mirafiori, inside an illegal orchard's shack along the banks of Sangone creek.
Ten years later, her sons and daughters live in conditions not different from the one she experienced. That even if, thanks to a project involving five Roma families, started in Summer 2011, her grandchildren are attending local primary schools, with a frequency higher than the average of Turin.Yet, even today, these families live on the streets, with personal and social disadvantages for them and the territory, as well.
In these last months, local schools welcomed children in their classes. Furthermore, a slight solidarity supporting this experience has been forwarded by some local entities and volunteers: some of them hosted Roma families with campers in their courtyards, others offered the possibility to shower, and some others gave milk for breakfast or simply human neighborhood.This effort, already bearing some unexpected results, thanks also to the support given by the institutions, needs the support of someone at higher levels allowing the full success of this little experience of tolerance and cohabitation in Turin.We, workers and residents of South-Mirafiori, wish to submit to the city authorities these three issues on which our efforts have not reached the expected results:
1. to identify and authorize a temporary accomodation for these families. Every family should stay in individual location, in order not to undergo continuous evictions;
2. to take charge of the procedures necessary to obtain the documents for stateless people, allowing to start regular working projects;
3. to provide spaces or to house these families, so that they can qualify for entering a real future home.We do not believe that creating a new Roma camp can effectively support the inclusion and the integration of these families.
We hope that we can undertake a way to give these families a future of emancipation from poverty and social exclusion.
